Taking Care of Your Roses
One of the best things about starting a garden is that you can customize it to fit you. You can choose what to grow and how large or small to make it. While it is possible to find an automated kit which is pretty good most of them are not very good. You can do it by yourself by using the same basic tools and procedures.
Growing roses is one good example. These do not need to be planted carefully and they can be planted as soon as the bud burst. This is the most common mistake people make. When planting a rose bush, you will have to dig a hole big enough for the plant. Put some compost in the hole. Put water in it. Then plant the rose bush in the hole.
In order to get the compost out of the hole, use a spade. You can dig the hole bigger than what is needed. Then tie the roots up with a string. In order to get the rose bush back in, use a rake to loosen up the soil around the roots. Then use a stick or a rake to loosen up the soil on the inside of the rose bush. This is where the problem starts. You will use the same tools to loosen up the rose bush and get the compost and roots out.
If you are using a rake, use it on a low setting. This will prevent the spread of the fungus. If you have to use a stick, cut it very short so the fibers are not raked on the plant. Use a rag to dry the rose root tips. When the tip is dry, rinse it and use it on your skin. Then rub some tincture of herbs on the dried plant tip.
Do this several times. If you have to use alcohol, then do it several times. Do this when you see the rose bush starting to swell. This is the sign of the fungus. When you see the rose bush swelling, then this is the time to treat it. The rose bush must not swell more then 3-4 inches. The next will be a series of shrubs around the rose bush. You will treat the shrubs by removing them. These shrubs will also promote growth of the rose bush. There is a very good chance that the rose bush will grow another bush.
If the rose bush is infected with some other disease, then then the fungus will take control of the disease.
The rose bush will turn yellow. This is caused by a build up of potassium. If you take the plant outside and transfer it to the shade, then it will recover. If you leave it indoors, then it will recover but it will develop a greener shade. You should not leave it indoors during the winter. The same applies to roses which are affected with powdery mildew. They must be taken out and moved to the shade to avoid spreading of the mildew.
